Dream Post #2

Warnings: Head canon stuff, questionable parenting from Valentine
Effects: None

Snow is falling out on the ground that a young boy with blond hair is playing in. He's laughing brightly and running around trying to catch the flakes. It's a beautiful sight to be sure. Anyone can see that just by looking at it. A closer look even reveals that this is a young Jace, golden eyes happy as he falls into a pile of the snow around him.

"Jonathan," a man's voice calls and the boy turns to a tall man with hair so blond it might as well be white. The smile on his face fades a bit. It's quite clear suddenly that he's not supposed to be out here playing.

"I don't believe that your reading is done for the day. So a certain son of mine shouldn't be out enjoying himself in the snow. But since you so intent on it, go stand by that tree."

Jace quickly nods then runs over, staring at his feet. But only for a moment. Then he's looking up at the man. "I am sorry, father. I just..."

"Your task will be to catch the snow I throw at you."

For the next fifteen minutes straight, the man throws balls of snow that splatter in the boy's hands, smashing into his face. It's not long before the little boy is crying and shivering from the cold. Yet he still tries to hold his hands to catch the snow. He clearly doesn't want to give up because there has to be a way. However, the next one hits him straight in the face and his head smacks the tree behind him. Letting out a yelp of pain and a little sob, he falls to his knees. Only then does the man walk up to him.

"There, there, Jonathan. This was just a lesson to show you that what can bring us pleasure can slip through our fingers and cause us pain. Never forget this lesson."

The little boy sobs and nods his head quickly to show that he's understood. "Y-y-y-yesss, f-f-f-father."

"Very good. Now go inside and get cleaned up before you go back to your reading. We don't want you to get our books wet." The man smiles as he brushes snow from Jace's hair then helps him up. It's like he's proud of the child as he watches him run back into the house...

Jace wakes up panting after the memory. He's distressed enough that he doesn't even notice the smell of peppermint in the air. Grabbing his hair, he stares off with wide eyes before he notices the Dreamberry on. With a snarl, he throws it against the wall.

I was watching the snow.

[Hence the stupidity of opening the window in freezing conditions to do it while only wearing a t-shirt and sweatpants. Jace is already a bit cold but isn't really paying attention to that fact.]

Why are you awake?

Windows are clear for a reason, Jace.

[]

And I'm awake because you're awake.

nolessthanseven: ((happy) a pleasant surprise)

Yeah, I know you aren't. You're way too familiar with this cycle, you know that?

[Jace just looks over at him with a brow lifted but at least moves his legs out of the way to make more room for Alec.]

If Magnus blames this on me later, I will make sure your wardrobe turns pink.

[He can read between the lines. When he feels like it. Or when he's feeling moody enough to pick on other people over stupid things.]

When the wicked forces that come with the wonders of sleep stop trying to invade then I will make sure to embrace sleep wholeheartedly.

Don't worry about that.

[]

So, what was all that about?

[identity profile] gryffindoe.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 06:03 am (UTC)(link)
I disagree. I think your father was cruel.
nolessthanseven: (adorable)

[personal profile] nolessthanseven 2011-12-06 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
You know, I bet Remus could fix that.

[identity profile] ischarming.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
...For you maybe. [He does not look like he's interested.]

[identity profile] ischarming.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 06:07 am (UTC)(link)
He was teaching me lessons. [He can't even figure out why he's defending this.]
nolessthanseven: ((stoic) pouting)

[personal profile] nolessthanseven 2011-12-06 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
No, seriously. I mean, it's worth asking, isn't it?

[identity profile] gryffindoe.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 06:12 am (UTC)(link)
Lessons on pain? That's something no child should feel on purpose.

[Jace decides that the snow is way more interesting than Alec suddenly.]

It's just a memory. [He shrugs.]

[identity profile] ischarming.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 06:14 am (UTC)(link)
Pain is a part of life.

[identity profile] ischarming.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 06:15 am (UTC)(link)
So ask him.

[identity profile] gryffindoe.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
And it's something everyone feels eventually. Purposefully hurting a child is horrible.

[identity profile] ischarming.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 06:19 am (UTC)(link)
I wasn't supposed to be out in the snow.

[identity profile] gryffindoe.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 06:23 am (UTC)(link)
And that excuses child abuse? I think not.

[identity profile] ischarming.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 06:24 am (UTC)(link)
Who said anything about child abuse?

[Action]

[identity profile] hotforwarlock.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 06:24 am (UTC)(link)
Then why's it bothering you so much?

What would you call what he did? You were crying.

[Action]

[identity profile] ischarming.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 06:27 am (UTC)(link)
It's private.

[He glares out the window. He hates this. That's something he never wanted anyone to see. His feelings about his father are conflicted enough with that on top of things.]

[identity profile] ischarming.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 06:28 am (UTC)(link)
So children never cry when they're punished?

[identity profile] gryffindoe.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 06:29 am (UTC)(link)
Tears aren't uncommon, but you weren't crying because you were sorry. You were crying because you were wet, cold and hurt.
nolessthanseven: ((stoic) unimpressed right now)

[personal profile] nolessthanseven 2011-12-06 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
I will. When it's not some totally stupid time of night. He'll think something's wrong again.
